📖 From Village Roots to Global Vision
The Story of Sudhan Ponnuthurai
Early Life & Education
Sudhan Ponnuthurai was born on September 1, 1983, in Vadapathy, a small village near Vedaranyam in the
Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. He grew up in a middle-class agricultural family as the son of
Mr. Ponnuthurai and the late Mrs. Nagarethinam, along with an elder brother and a younger sister.
He began his education at the Government Nursery School in Vadapathy and continued at
R. Natesanar Government Higher Secondary School, Ayakaranpulam (1987–2000).
During this period, his father’s illness placed immense responsibility on his mother, who started a small dairy business with just one cow.
Her determination and hard work not only sustained the family but also enabled Sudhan to pursue higher education.
He went on to complete his Bachelor of Computer Applications (2000–2003) and
Master of Business Administration (2003–2005) at Maruthupandiyar College, Tanjore,
fully supported by his mother’s sacrifices. Inspired by her resilience, Sudhan vowed to create a meaningful and impactful life.
Early Struggles & Entrepreneurial Spark
After graduation, securing employment proved difficult. However, Sudhan’s innovative mind noticed the rising demand for mobile phones around
2004–2005. He trained in mobile servicing in Coimbatore and soon launched his first venture,
PRS Cell Service Point, in Thiruthuraipundi (2005). Despite his dedication, the business eventually failed.
The First-Ever Visiting Card — PRS Cell Service Point (2005)
A nostalgic piece of Sudhan’s journey, this visiting card was the very first branding material he created when he
started his mobile service shop in Thiruthuraipoondi. It stands as a reminder of how far the journey has come and
symbolizes the courage and ambition behind his first entrepreneurial step.

Undeterred, he sought opportunities abroad. In Malaysia, his mobile business faced cultural barriers, and he took on odd jobs in car washes
and restaurants—sometimes without pay. These challenges tested his endurance, but his mother’s unwavering encouragement reignited his determination
to succeed against all odds.
Breakthrough in Singapore
A turning point came when Sudhan visited Singapore for his sister’s wedding. Choosing to stay, he began working as a labourer in a mobile shop
for two years, mastering every aspect of the trade. With grit and passion, he started delivering mobile spare parts from China—often riding a bicycle
across the city to meet customer needs.
In 2010, he began a new chapter by joining a group under Univercell Technologies Pte Ltd in partnership with his sister
Sobiya Chandrasekar. Later, he launched his own small mobile shop in Little India, Singapore. Through honesty, customer care,
and persistence, he built strong trust within the South Indian community. His shop grew into the well-known Univercell Stores,
a respected brand in Singapore’s mobile retail and wholesale market. Through this venture, he also created employment for friends and fellow villagers.
Growth & Expansion
In 2013, Sudhan married a Singaporean of Indian origin. Although some ventures, including a jewellery shop and restaurant,
did not succeed, his mobile stores, supermarkets, social media company, and online mobile businesses flourished.
By 2019, he expanded to India with S Infotech in Tambaram, Chennai, followed by a branch in
Thiruthuraipundi.
Even after the heartbreaking loss of his mother in 2022, Sudhan remained steadfast in his vision. In 2025,
he co-founded Sudhan Infotech Pvt. Ltd. in his hometown and rebranded his Indian operations as Sudhan Mobiles.
His business rapidly expanded across Tamil Nadu, with outlets in Chennai, Sathyamangalam,
Kovilpatti, and Tiruppur. That same year, he diversified into lifestyle services with the launch of
Sudhan Hotspot Salon in Chennai.
🌍 Social Activities & Community Impact
Sudhan believes true success lies in uplifting society. As a Council Member of LISHA Singapore, he supports cultural and entrepreneurial initiatives. In honour of his late mother, he founded the SPN Trust, which provides scholarships, healthcare, disaster relief, and youth skill development. Giving back is not charity — it’s a way of honouring his roots and empowering future generations.
